About this work
Stoneware jug on a high foot with an ovoid belly and a narrow neck with a pinched spout. The C-shaped handle is attached to the neck and shoulder. Some incised lines on the foot and neck. Partially covered with cobalt blue and manganese purple. On the neck a relief decoration with a printed, applied mask of a bearded man or a lion. The front of the belly with concentric circles of vines and stylized, triangular leaf motifs. In the center a quatrefoil. Around the handle an empty medallion. The sides with a vertical line of quatrefoils with leaf motifs on either side. Westerwald.
