About this work

Stoneware jug (schnelle) with a cylindrical, slightly tapering body and C-shaped handle. Profiles above the foot and under the rim. On the body in relief a printed and applied decoration of a scene from the life of Jonah with the inscription 'IONA' between two coats of arms. Under the left coat of arms the inscription 'HERZOG ZU WIRTENBERG'; on the right the coat of arms of Jülich, Cleves and Berg with the date '1574' and the mark 'K.'. Siegburg.
