About this work

Part of the front panel of an oak chest. The corner posts feature herm caryatids with coats of arms; on one, the crucified Christ with the lance in his side wound and the initials K.B. The front panel is decorated in coarse stitchwork with a relief depicting The Judgment of Solomon. In the center is a large lion mask. On the frame is inscribed: "Koninck Salemo ordelt twischen twen wiven dat deit men eme".
