About this work

Jug (schnelle) of stoneware with a cylindrical, tapering body and C-shaped handle. Profiles under the rim and above the foot. Covered with a brown engobe. On the front of the jug in relief a printed and applied medallion containing a 16th-century dressed man (warrior?) with a lance and purse. Around him the inscription 'ICH BIN EIN HELT ICH HAP DEN BAIDE[l] ZANDE[r] GELT'. The rim inscription reads 'GELDRIOS:BIN:ICH/ ALTOS:ALSO:MOETEN/ SEI:WEISSEN:DEI:DIT/ LEISSEN:1585:G:F'. Raeren.
