About this work

Chased cup with lid and foot of gilt silver. On the lid a Roman spear-bearer with broken spear (on which possibly a liberty cap stood) and a shield with the arms of Veere and inscription. On the bowl engraved two hands joined and the arms of William III and of Veere. Above inscription. On the foot a pomegranate. Inside the cup a knight with horse and shield. Maker's mark: swimming dolphin.
