About this work

Stoneware jug (schnelle) with a cylindrical, slightly tapering body and C-shaped handle. Profiles above the foot and below the rim. On the body, in relief, three times a stamped and applied, elongated panel with in the center the coat of arms of Hamburg with the inscription 'HAMBVRGENS' and '1591'. Below it a coat of arms with a castle, supported by two lions. On either side of this the coat of arms of Lübeck with the inscription 'LVBICENSIS', '1591' and the signature 'H.H.'. Below it a coat of arms with John the Baptist, supported by two naked men. Above each panel a human figure surrounded by floral scrolls. Siegburg.
