About this work
Allegorical monument to the minister Petrus Broes. On the right, the personification of Time, with ears of corn and a sickle, bringing an end to life. On the left, a mourning woman with a book of seven seals under her arm. They flank the oval bust portrait of Broes, framed by the Ouroboros: a snake biting its own tail, the symbol of eternity. Behind the portrait, a pillar with a book decorated with flowers. Below the monument, three skulls. Subject heading within the Atlas Amsterdam: Church Affairs: Reformed Congregation: Reminiscences of Reformed Ministers.
