About this work

Allegorical monument for Wolter Jan Gerrit baron Bentinck, died 23/24 August and buried on 28 August 1781 in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam. A bust of a smiling Bentinck is crowned by an angel with a laurel wreath, on the right a mourning woman kneels with a city crown and banner of the Admiralty of Amsterdam. On the pedestal an inscription in Latin, at the bottom a four-line verse.
