About this work
Funerary monument for the minister Johan Diederich Deiman. On the right the personification of Time, with ears of corn and a sickle, bringing an end to life. On the left a weeping woman with a book under her arm. They flank the oval portrait bust of Deiman, which is framed by a serpent biting its own tail (Ouroboros): the symbol of eternity. Behind the portrait a pillar, with the family coat of arms on top. Below the monument three skulls and on the plaque a two-line text.
