About this work

Allegorical funerary monument for the minister Petrus Broes. On the right the personification of Time, with ears of corn and a sickle, bringing an end to life. On the left a weeping woman with a book under her arm. They flank the oval portrait bust of Broes, which is framed by the Ouroboros: a serpent biting its own tail, the symbol of eternity. Behind the portrait a pillar with a book decorated with flowers on top. Below the monument three skulls.
