About this work
The painter Eduard declares his love to Leonoor, whose portrait he has painted. At the door stands Leonoor's jealous husband, Don Pedro, who is being kept occupied by the painter's servant. Hanging above the door is a painting depicting Alexander presenting the painter Apelles' mistress, Campaspe, as a gift. A four-line verse in Dutch and French appears in the lower margin.
