About this work
Helena and her secret lover Ferdinand recite a pastoral poem to each other, in which the characters declare their love. At the table sit Helena's father Manshart (the feigned invalid) and his physician Narticoforus. Behind the physician stands his son Bartrand, for whom Manshart has destined his daughter.
