In the foreground, the coats of arms of the theatre's administrators, with the coat of arms of Jan Vos to the right of the center. In reality, these shields were not hung there. This city theatre was designed by Jacob van Campen and was built on the site of Samuel Coster's Nederduitse Academie (at the location of the current Keizersgracht 384). The opening was on December 26, 1637. In 1665, the building was extensively renovated, and in 1772 it burned down.
