About this work

View of the stage of the Amsterdam Schouwburg on the Keizersgracht. In the foreground the coats of arms of the managers of the theater, with on the right of the center the coat of arms of Jan Vos. In reality these shields did not hang there. This city theater was designed by Jacob van Campen and was built on the site of the Dutch Academy of Samuel Coster (at the location of the current Keizersgracht 384). The opening was on 26 December 1637. In 1665 the building was extensively renovated and in 1772 it burned down.
