About this work

View of the side of the First Sint-Antonies Gate in Amsterdam. In the background on the right, the Oude Kerk. This fifteenth-century building came to lie within the city (on the Nieuwmarkt) after the urban expansions at the end of the sixteenth century and thus lost its function as a city gate. In 1617-1618, it was converted into a weigh house. Numbered at the bottom of the image, left of center: I. Part of a series of five prints in and around Amsterdam. Subject categories within the Atlas of Customs and Manners: Military Affairs, City Gates.
