About this work

Dish of fire-gilded suassa, with a carved bracket-shaped rim and a raised ring in the center, within which a cup fits. The rim has a smooth ground without incised decorations. On the upper side of the carved bracket-shaped rim, six cartouches (medallions) with relief-stamped images of branches with flowers and birds. Three elongated and three small rhomboid carved cartouches. On the bottom within the inner rim, around the inner ring, a stamped image in gilded relief of trees, branches with flowers, birds, two pagodas, two pennants or flags. In the center, a raised ring (with a seam) around which a narrow band with a black lacquer incised pattern of flower petals; within the ring, an incised image of an open flower. The underside is smooth and gilded.
