About this work
Inside a house or under a shelter, a man lies sleeping on a wooden bed bench (enda). On the right his head rests on two pillows. On his head he wears a cap or a knotted headscarf. The upper body is uncovered. As a sheet he has pulled the loose wide hip cloth (veshti, lungi) over his lower body and drawn-up knees. The man is likely a laborer from South India employed in Colombo. Over the rattan or rope covering and the protruding legs, a cloth has been drawn, making it look like a mattress. On top of that lies a sheet. Page 114 from a sketchbook with 117 pages.
