About this work
On a rolling terrain (the bank of a canal or small lake) lies a marsh crocodile (Crocodylus palustris), then called caiman, stretched out long with its tail to the left and its open jaws with teeth to the right. On the left of the drawing – half hidden behind the slope – a man passes the crocodile. He wears a short rolled-up hip cloth (veshti, lungi), tucked in at the waist. Page 57 from a sketchbook with 117 pages.
