Man, woman and little boy, inside the house

Indoors, a man, a woman, and a child are drawn next to an open door with a view outside. It may be an Eurasian or Sinhalese family. On the left, the man sits on a wooden bench with his back to the wall. He is dressed in a high-wrapped hip cloth (veshti, lungi). His hair is combed back with a middle part. No beard growth is visible. The woman sits close to the door on an unseen stool. She wears a wrap skirt (redda) and a Portuguese blouse with a V-neck and long sleeves (hatte). Her hair, parted in the middle, is combed back and pinned into a bun (condé). Between her knees stands a naked little boy, whose forearm she holds with her right hand. Against the side wall – between the figures – stands a shelf with a round box with a lid. The floor appears to be of rammed earth (mati). In the open door, a closed shutter is sketched in.
