About this work

Octant, complete with micrometer, mirrors, and glass in a mahogany case. The entire set belonged to the equipment of the Japanese warship Kigaimaru of the Shoshu clan (formerly the Dutch ship Rivierbuur) that fought in the Battle of Shimonoseki against the Dutch warship Medusa in July 1863.
