Azimuth compass in a wooden box. The compass has a fixed sighting device. Its eyepiece consists of a prismatic sight to read the rose, combined with a slit sight with a black and green darkening glass; the wire sight on the other side is equipped with a tilting black mirror. The bowl is weighted with a lead weight at the bottom. With two mechanisms in the bowl, the rose can be locked: one is a lever with a ring around the pin, which lifts the rose from the pin; the other is a spring that is pushed against the edge of the rose.
