Flintlock pistol

Part of a pair. The lockplate is engraved with foliage, a female nude ending in a leafy vine, and the maker's signature. The barrel is partially ribbed and divided by cast relief decoration; the breech has a cast relief rim; stamped underneath with the Utrecht city mark and twice with AI. The burl walnut stock is carved with leafy vines among other motifs. The iron furniture includes, among other things, an openwork screwplate with chiseled leafy vines, one of which extends into the head of a monster; a plain, almost heart-shaped thumbplate framed by large leafy vines following the contours; and an unadorned butt cap with long butt cap spurs extending almost to the screwplate; the ramrod is fitted with an iron cap.
