About this work
Part of a pair. The lock plate and the cock are relief-carved with wavy edges and engraved with foliage featuring a bird, a grotesque mask, and a flower around the cock screw; provided with an inscription. The round barrel has flattened surfaces at the rear, the upper one engraved with a signature, next to which are carved vines ending in snake heads; the tail of the barrel is engraved with fern fronds and a grotesque mask and extends into the rear part of the barrel; stamped underneath with an illegible mark. The stock is simply carved.
