About this work

Probably a military pistol. Part of a pair. The lock is the same as that of NG-2002-23-158; the yellow copper lockplate is engraved with foliage and the maker's signature; the cock with a curled dragon or snake. The barrel of formerly gilded yellow copper is engraved at the rear with foliage and stamped at the bottom with an I; a rib runs over the top; the front sight bead is of yellow copper. The stock is carved with, among other things, foliage. The formerly gilded, yellow copper mount consists, among other things, of a broken bracket-shaped screw plate, a tumbler plate with an acanthus leaf at the top and bottom, and a lobed buttplate in relief with at the bottom the same lobes in a cross; the palmwood ramrod is fitted with a yellow copper cap.
