About this work
The hilt is mounted in sawasa and consists of a cast, pierced counter-guard with black and gilded foliate work with monster heads around panels with plum blossom branches in bas-relief on a gilded fish-skin-like background, repeated on the other parts of the hilt; the wooden grip is clad in steel and wrapped with twisted copper wire and has silver braided grip rings at the top and bottom. The hollow-d triangular cross-section of the blade changes to rhombic towards the point; the blade is etched with trophies, trellis work, and rococo scrollwork.
