About this work

The order insignia is a five-pointed white-enamelled star in gold, with a wreath of oak and laurel leaves between the arms. The central medallion shows a woman's head in profile facing right (symbol of the French Republic) with the legend 'Republique Francaise' in gold letters on a blue background; the reverse shows two crossed French flags on a gold background with the legend 'Honneur et Patrie' in gold letters on a blue background. The insignia is worn on an oak and laurel wreath and hangs as a whole on a red ribbon.
