About this work
Letter bag of red (morocco) leather, with embroidery of gold and silver thread on the front and back and on the flap, attached to parchment. Front: ornament in the form of a palmette from which lush vines with flowers sprout. Flap: bracket-shaped with the same decoration as below on the front. Back: rectangular frame within which the owner's name is embroidered in the leather, followed by a branch. Interior lined with silk and divided into three compartments. Inscription: Pieter de Leeuw/Constantinople/1767.
