About this work

Hat worn by President Kruger on board the cruiser Hr. Ms. Gelderland, made by Cooper, Box & Co. Ltd of London. The hat was preserved by Kruger's Dutch valet whose heirs donated it to the Rijksmuseum. The photo of Kruger on board the Gelderland shows the president wearing the hat.
