High hat of black silk plush. Cylindrical crown with a brim rising towards the center. A band of black cloth is set around the crown. The brim is trimmed with black grosgrain ribbon. The hat has a white leather headband and a lining of cream-colored silk. With the initials F G (= Frederik Gevers van Marquette).
