Model of a Gun Position on the Afterdeck

Model of the stern of a paddle steamer with a 60-pound bomb cannon on a traversing carriage. The barrel is 15 cm long and has a caliber of 4 mm; an elevating screw passes through the grape. The lower carriage consists of a wooden frame of two heavy beams with two light ones in between, on three crossbeams each with two balls at the bottom at the ends, which run over the turning circles; at the front and back the carriage runs on to stop the upper carriage. The upper carriage consists of two cheeks with four steps, the upper part with a tappan of solid brass; the cross-bracing consists of a diagonal knee, two axle journals and a crossbeam on which the sole plate rests. The axle journals have no wheels. In front of the cheeks two small wheels are attached, which run over the rails of the outer beams, but only when the wheels are raised against the rear axle journal and run over the rails of the middle pair of beams.
