Breech-Loading Rifle, System Jacob Snider

Breech-loading rifle with a browned, smooth barrel. It features a Snider-type central-fire mechanism: the cartridge is loaded at the rear of the barrel, and the hammer strikes a pin on the percussion cap at the rear of the cartridge. When the chamber is open, the empty cartridge case can be removed by pulling the breechblock backward; the block automatically returns forward due to the spring around the breechblock pivot, a characteristic feature of all Snider rifles. The rifle has a sight. The ramrod for removing the empty cartridge case if the other system fails is missing. The rifle is equipped with a browned bayonet with a standard bayonet catch, the blade triangular in cross-section.
