About this work

Drawing with calligraphed title; in the foreground from left to right 4 ships with sterns facing forward, slightly slanting, sails partly raised (three-masters); right of each ship a rowing boat floats, connected to the ship by a line. In the background various similar ships can be seen. At the level of the mast tops a letter is attached to each ship, corresponding with the description under the drawing.
