Model of a Made Mast

Round mast with square top, ears, topgallant yardarms and side platforms. The mast foot is quite square and consists of eight parts: the square masthead is, unlike other masts, placed diagonally, so with the corners towards the sides of the mast, so that the sides are triangular in cross-section, their outer side rounded. From the mast hole, three sides are added at the back which run all the way up, while the front three parts stop just above the topgallant yardarms; from this point the mast again consists of eight parts and becomes square again. The parts are held together by a large number of hoops. Two side platforms reinforce the whole; they also support the topgallant yardarms together with the ears, which are not attached to the sides but to the front of the mast with iron and bolts. Between the ears a platform is attached. At the mast hole there are two notches for the ears and two for the topgallant yardarms, if the mast is turned around.
