About this work

Model of a hooped mast. Round mast with octagonal top, ears, shrouds and partners, riding bed, reefing scale and side scales. The mast itself consists of an octagonal mast cap surrounded by eight cheeks, connected with dowels to prevent sliding; the mast top consists of the cap alone. The forward cheek is slightly longer than the others. The parts are held together by hoop bands. A number of short planks around the mast form a flat riding bed at the front and a half-octagon at the back. The side scales are extended and widened and form the ears; a reefing scale is attached in front against the mast. The ears have clamps to support the shrouds and partners.
