Model of a Stopper and Bitts

Model of a chain stopper with chain, on a baseboard, with a separate batten. At one end of the baseboard, the chain runs through a regular nipper. The stopper consists of a set of discs mounted in the floor at the other end, one of which rotates around an eccentrically placed shaft; the chain runs around the fixed disc, forward around the eccentric disc and back again. The tension on the chain pulls the eccentric disc backward so that the chain is clamped between the two discs. Around the foot of the loose octagonal batten is a disc, so that it can replace the fixed disc on the baseboard.
