Model of a Three-Masted Ship

Framing model of an exceptional three-masted ship with rudimentary rigging. The hull is attached only on the port side. The most striking features are the hull shape and construction. The hull is an angular S-frame with a built-in keel, which is very thick at the front and tapers toward the rear. The bow is wide, and the hull becomes progressively narrower toward the rear in a straight line; the stern stands on a high transom timber. The sheer is completely flat; the model has one wale. The sides slope inward above the wale. The ship was not built according to the usual frame-and-plank method: the hull consists of longitudinally stacked beams, beveled on the outside for the planking; only four single frames hold the whole together. The wide, flat bow has no figurehead and a nearly vertical stem. Flat transom, hollow counter, and small stern to close off the stern.
