Model of a Gun Carriage

Model of a carriage, incomplete. The body tapers towards the front. The cross-bracing between the cheeks consists of a diagonally standing axle box with breastplate and breast flap, and the axle boxes; the sole plate is a beam lying lengthwise between the axle boxes. The cheeks have three steps and an elliptical cutout at the bottom. Under the axle boxes, a sledge is attached, on which a wedge device acts as a brake against recoil; this brake is missing. The sledge is a wooden frame, fitted with brass at the front and equipped with a pintle bolt. Under the rear axle box, two small rollers are attached, with their axes radial to the pintle bolt when the piece is aboard; with a lever, these rollers lift the carriage off the rear wheels when it must be hoisted. The model has brass eye bolts, tappan covers, and other fittings. Scale 1:5 (derived).
