About this work

Model of a mortar bed for a 20-inch (cm) mortar on a rotating bed. The rotating bed consists of a flat wooden plate with a hole for the pintle bolt in the middle. At the rear, a fixed bumper with five removable beams is attached, serving as a buffer to absorb recoil; between these beams, small blocks are placed, alternately at the ends or in the middle, allowing the beams to spring. The bed consists of two parts placed lengthwise and has brass tappan cushions, a trough for the mortar in a lying position, and a removable aiming block that gives the mortar an elevation of 45°. Scale 1:5 (scale on model).
