Model of a 24-Pounder Breech-Loading Gun

Model of a 24-pounder breech-loading cannon on a ship's deck section, incomplete. The barrel is 30.5 cm long with a caliber of 14 mm. The grape has been replaced by a brass handle, likely for handling the breechblock. A wedge across the breech holds the breechblock in place; the breechblock consists of the handle and the bottom of the chamber, which is drawn backward out of the breech. Only one cheek of the carriage has been preserved. The ship's deck section is a schematic representation of a piece of deck and a gunport with a round opening, the outer diameter of which is larger than the inner diameter. Scale 1:10 (estimate).
