About this work

Richly decorated cast bronze cannon. On the base in front of the touchhole, the coat of arms of the Van Reygersberg family with two lions as supporters; below, four swimming swans, and above, an eagle. The cascabels shaped as dolphins surrounded by flowers; the barrel adorned with a large hanging trophy of dead herons and hunting gear, including a cartouche formed by four hunting dogs, stags, and a boar's head containing: SEMPER IDEM. Near the cascabel, a band of arabesques. The cascabel is richly decorated.
