Breastplate of a harquebusier's harness for a young man. Probably a Dutch harness with a stadtholderal background. Typical Dutch elements are the decorated rivets of the wart hooks and the flattened surface of other rivets, as well as the 'striped' edges of the neck and arm openings. The acanthus-shaped lines on the breastplate and the slight bend in the middle of the neck guard are also features often seen on Dutch harnesses. The rosette-shaped decoration around the rivets shows traces of gilding in several places. There are no remains of black paint visible. Unclear whether and when the paint was removed. Such harnesses were usually black in the seventeenth century. This was done by heating or by applying a black paint layer. Neck guard missing.
