About this work

Silver medal. Obverse: Time confirms the portrait of Luther on a pillar, whose spire reaches into the clouds, while History writes a text on the pillar; on the pedestal of the pillar a coat of arms. Fame blows a double trumpet, in the background a view of the city within legend; edge: inscription. Reverse: illuminated by a triangular eye in a halo, Religion, depicted as a veiled woman, defends herself with a shield against arrows; in the other hand she holds a palm branch and two serpent rings; beside her a burning altar and on the ground fetters, tiara, cardinal's hat, indulgences and other religious objects within legend; edge: inscription.
