About this work
Silver medal. Obverse: Holland, depicted as a woman with a liberty cap on a spear and Mercury's staff, sitting in the Dutch garden among merchant goods; beside her, a lion with a bundle of arrows and a Bible on an altar within the legend. Reverse: the god of war with a sword in hand attempts to open the Temple of Janus from within, while an arm from the clouds with a bundle of arrows tries to prevent this within the legend; incuse: date.
