About this work

Bronze medal with a hole in it. Obverse: bust of a woman with a widow's cap within an inscription in mirror writing. Reverse: Maria de' Medici, depicted as Cybele with crown and veil on her head, holding a scepter in her left hand and a globe in her right; above her, on a cloud, stands her chariot; around her her children, depicted as Olympian gods: Louis XIII as Jupiter with scepter and thunderbolt in hand; Henrietta Maria as Amphitrite, with foot on a dolphin and trident in hand; Christina as Diana with bow; Elisabeth as Juno, accompanied by a peacock and holding a pot; and Gaston as Hercules with club and lion's skin; section: inscription within a cartouche.
