About this work

Allegory on the restoration of religion in England by William III, 1688-1689. As a Roman hero, Prince William (with English shield) saves the maiden of religion (with seven little stars as a halo), behind her hides Moses with the tables of the law. Hercules drives away Deceit, Envy and other enemies with a club. Around various personifications pointing to the goodness of the Prince. In the foreground a verse held up by two angels.
