About this work
A man surrounded by muses watches how Apollo descends from Parnassus to laurel him. On Parnassus are three muses and a rearing Pegasus. In the foreground putti with attributes of science and arts, on the right Hercules swings his club at the three Fates who sit in front of the entrance to Tartarus. In the sky Venus, in the company of putti, is drawn in her triumphal chariot by two doves.
