About this work
Allegory on the death of Stadtholder Willem IV on 22 October 1751. The monument for the Stadtholder is draped with a garland by genii with the arms of the seven provinces. Next to the grave the mourning Dutch Maiden. In the background the young Prince Willem V is received at the entrance of the temple of sciences. At the top, two angels carry a portrait medallion of Willem IV through the clouds.
