About this work
Allegory on the Peace of Aachen concluded on 18 October 1748 between the Allies (Republic, England, and Austria) on one side and France, Prussia, and Spain on the other. Europe kneels with the bull before Peace with a horn of plenty, behind her the Dutch Maiden, in the clouds Fame, in the center an obelisk with the arms of the warring parties. On the left, Father Time draws aside the curtain to reveal the spectacle; in the foreground on the right, the Art of Song or Poetry.
