About this work

Allegory on the 100th anniversary of Dutch Freedom, 1648-1748. The personification of Dutch Freedom, depicted with hat on a staff, the Dutch lion and banner of Prince William IV, receives the personification of the Century which has descended from the clouds. Above the throne stand busts of the stadtholders, at the feet of Freedom lies the enemy defeated during the revolt: the Catholic Church.
