About this work
The personification of Dutch Liberty, depicted with a spear topped with a liberty cap, the Dutch lion, and a banner of Prince William IV, receives the personification of Eternity, who has descended from the clouds. Above the throne stand busts of the stadtholders William I, Maurice, and Frederick Henry. At the feet of Liberty lie the enemies defeated during the uprising: the king, the Catholic Church, and the Duke of Alba.
